Year 7&8 Weekly Blog
Parent Notice:
Dear parents,
Thank you to all of the MY parents that have joined us this week for our Student-Led Conferences and Parent Teacher Conferences. I hope you have enjoyed seeing some examples of your child's work as well as it being helpful for you to learn a little bit more about how the MY programme works.
We have two additional school events coming up next week for any parents who would like to join us. Next Tuesday, December 8th the parents are welcome to join in our trial virtual learning session that will be held from 14:00-14:40. This is a time where parents can see an example of how virtual learning lessons will take place should we ever need to go back to a virtual learning situation. During this time parents will have the opportunity to ask any questions and learn about the different platforms that will be used during our virtual learning sessions.
The 2nd event next week will be our school Christmas Event held on Thursday, December 10th from 10:00-12:00. During this time parents will be able to rotate to each class booth to take part in some fun activities with the children. The children are welcome to leave with their parents at 12:00 once this event is completed. Otherwise, the children are welcome to remain at school until 14:45 with their classroom teacher. We hope you can all join!
Student Council Charity Fundraiser for Udon Thani Home for Girl
Language & Literature
This week in Language and Literature class the learners worked on writing a story that is reflective of a legend. The children also continued reading The Girl Who Drank the Moon by Kelly Barnhill. For next week, the learners will continue to learn about different myths and legends that are told around the world.
Individuals & Society
For this week the children have been exploring how society is able to learn about past civilisations and how artefacts and drawings were used to document the history of the past. The children began exploring the Mayan Civilisation, and Mesopotamia. For next week, the learners will begin researching about Tutankhamun and who he was.
Maths
In this third unit, students are learning about how numerical information, known as data, is collected, organized, analyzed, interpreted and presented. The topic begins by introducing simple models to visualize and interpret data sets. Students will then learn to identify, select and apply appropriate models such as pie charts, bar graphs and line graphs to selected data in order to best understand and present this information.
Science
Science students have been learning about the characteristics of living organisms and the cell theory this week as they begin the third unit. In order to observe and learn about cells, students have also been developing their skills using microscopes. Students will observe and draw various cell structures and microscopic organisms. Following the holiday break, students will learn to prepare their own slides for viewing.
Father's Day Assembly (World Soil Day 2020)
In the assembly, MYP students had a great opportunity to participate in World Soil Day activity. They learnt how to make the soil healthier. Then they all gathered along with other students in the school on the field and planted their lovely flowers in the pots.
Homework
Each MYP classroom teacher will be assigning their homework via Google Classroom. The children should be reading for at least 20 minutes per day. The learners should continue to complete any incomplete classwork for homework and submit it via Google Classroom in order to receive teacher feedback. EAL learners will have their own reading to do from Ms. Liza.
