Term 1 Week 7 Blog

Year 7&8 Weekly Blog

Language & Literature

This week in Language and Literature class the learners have worked on their 2nd Summative Assessment Task. The children had to create a Google Slide presentation relating to a TV programme. The learners had to analyse viewership, ratings, and investment advertisements as part of their summative assessment project. For next week the learners will begin exploring the concepts that they will be learning about in Unit 2. For Unit 2 the children will be exploring, analysing, and identifying different styles of poems and play scripts from the Elizabethan Era. They will pay special attention to the works created by William Shakespeare.

Individuals & Society

For this week the learners have shared with the class their presentations on air pollution, wild fires and forced child labor. They have also shared their action plans on how they would intend on resolving these issues in Thailand. For next week the children will be introduced to their next unit on belief systems and will explore a little bit about each of the 5 major religious of the world.

Maths

Students have started on their summative assessment tasks this week. The first activity involves solving equations that follow a pattern described by an unknown operation. Students apply existing knowledge to investigate what operation will produce the pattern described by each equation. The following summative assessment will involve solving problems that will be used to evaluate students' understanding of the order of numerical operations.

Science

Students received their summative assignments for the first unit last week in science and should be completing them this week. Students have recently completed a lab activity which inquired into the rate of heating during changes of state. Students set up the experiment, collected data and graphed the results. Evaluation of the data will involve understanding how energy is transferred during a change of state. The new science lab will enable students to actively explore concepts in science on a regular basis.

Homework

Each MYP classroom teacher will be assigning their homework via Google Classroom. The children should be reading for at least 20 minutes per day. In Week 8 the learners will begin reading a new novel. The learners should continue to complete any incomplete classwork for homework and submit it via Google Classroom in order to receive teacher feedback. EAL learners will have their own reading to do from Ms. Liza.

For next week, the learners will be sharing with their peers their presentations, research questions and action plans on how they would intend on resolving these issues in Thailand.

Maths

Students are working in groups to solve real world problems such as calculating the size of carpet pieces or the capacity of air conditioning units required for the math classroom. Students have also been working independently to improve their basic computational skills. Unit 1 summative assessment tasks  will be assigned for this upcoming week.

Science

Students are completing summative tasks for the first unit inquiry on the process of the scientific method used to understand relationships in nature. Identifying variables and controls in experiments, investigating a scientific discovery and completing unit reflection grids will support students' understanding of the how scientific investigations are carried out and illuminate subject matter that needs additional clarification.

Homework

Each MYP classroom teacher will be assigning their homework via Google Classroom. The children should be reading for at least 20 minutes per day.
