MYP Term 1 Week 5 Blog

 Year 7&8 Weekly Blog

Parent Notice

Today, the children were fitted for their new MYP uniforms. Each learner received their uniform and will be taking it home with them today. They should begin wearing these new uniforms from next Monday onwards. In addition, the children will also be taking home their results of the English and Mathematics External Assessment. These results will allow parents to understand what type of learner their child is and which skill areas they must continue to work on during this school year.

Language & Literature

This week in Language and Literature class the learners have worked on their critical thinking skills. The learners compared and contrasted the differences from non-fictional filmmaking and fictional filmmaking. For next week the learners will be working on producing a TV story script. They will act out their script at the end of the week. Next week the learners will also be taking their assessment on The Diary Of A Young Girl by Anne Frank.

Individuals & Society

For this week and next week in our Individuals & Society class the learners have worked on and will continue to work on identifying local issues that are taking place in Udon Thani and in Thailand. The learners are trying to develop possible solutions to help improve some of these issues from continuing to take place. For next week the learners will continue creating a presentation to document some of these issues that are taking place in Thailand and will include visuals to show some of the causes and consequences of these environmental issues.

Maths

MYP students are brushing up on their numeracy skills this week as they prepare for the upcoming unit assessments. This week, students have been practicing multiplication and division of decimals, mixed fractions and word problems involving the identification of common factors. We are reviewing converting decimals and fractions to percentages, and solving word problems that involve percentages.

Science

This week in science, students are completing their reflections on the first investigation which evaluated the strength of eggshells. Students will now begin using the new science lab where they will be collecting data for an investigation of the particle theory and changes of state.

Homework

Each MYP classroom teacher will be assigning their homework via Google Classroom. The children should be reading at least 15 pages per day from "The Diary of a Young Girl" by Anne Frank and should complete this book by this week. EAL learners will have their own reading to do from Ms. Liza.
