 Parent Notice

Dear parents and learners,

Please be aware that tomorrow Friday, October 23rd there will be no school in honour of Chulalongkorn Day. Also next Thursday, October 29th the school will be celebrating Loy Krathong and the children will be making Krathong's in class for this ceremony. On Friday, October 30th the children are welcome to come to school dressed in any Halloween costumes if they would like to.

Language & Literature 

This week in Language and Literature class the learners have worked on their summative assessment activity. The children were required to pick one topic that they wanted to focus on and write their sonnet as part of our unit on poetry. The children understand their sonnets must include exactly 14 lines with each line containing 10 syllables and follow a rhyming pattern. For next week the children will be working on their 1/2 term writing samples and will also be writing a speech.  

Individuals & Society

For this week the children have been learning about the Islamic religion and  have analysed what the "Five Pillars of Islam" are. The children also learned a little bit about Sharia Law that is still being practiced in Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates and in Brunei. For next week the learners will begin exploring the religion of Hinduism. 

Maths

Students will continue to explore the rules of algebra to identify patterns using models, rules and statements. A continued emphasis on real world word problems this week will challenge students to improve their skills in solving for unknown values in geometry. 

Science

Students are continuing to prepare for a series of experiments that will be carried out investigating mixtures of materials. Lab groups will identify the solubility of various compounds or determine the amount of carbon dioxide in soft drinks. Identifying the variables involved and designing a method to collect results is challenging, but the students are persevering and looking forward to setting up their activities and equipment in the lab.

Homework 

Each MYP classroom teacher will be assigning their homework via Google Classroom. The children should be reading for at least 20 minutes per day. The learners should continue to complete any incomplete classwork for homework and submit it via Google Classroom in order to receive teacher feedback. EAL learners will have their own reading to do from Ms. Liza.
