Term 1 Week 11 Blog

 Year 7&8 Weekly Blog


Language & Literature 

This week in Language and Literature class the learners have worked on writing a persuasive speech. The learners have analysed a speech from the play "Hamlet" by William Shakespeare. For next week the children will be exploring some famous scenes from Romeo and Juliet by Shakespeare and reflecting on the impact that the scene had on them.    







Individuals & Society

For this week the children have been learning about the religion of Hinduism and who Mahatma Gandi was. The children also began exploring Christianity and what the Protestant Reformation was. For next week the learners will continue to explore Christianity before learning about indigenous religious beliefs. 






Maths


Students have been working on building their skills in solving equations with one variable. This next week students will focus on addressing any gaps in their abilities to master numerical skills and continue to build on their understanding of algebra equations involving fractions. The aims are to review and master the fundamentals for the upcoming assessment week.






Science

Science students are developing a greater understanding of the natural world by applying their growing knowledge and abilities to hands on activities in the lab. Although identifying the relevant variables and controls using the scientific method are complex and take time to develop, students have a discovered important principles by investigation. One principle that was noted by a students during an experiment was how temperature affects solubility. 









Homework 

Each MYP classroom teacher will be assigning their homework via Google Classroom. The children should be reading for at least 20 minutes per day. The learners should continue to complete any incomplete classwork for homework and submit it via Google Classroom in order to receive teacher feedback. EAL learners will have their own reading to do from Ms. Liza.
