Term 1 Week 12 Blog

Year 7&8 Weekly Blog

Parent Notice

On Monday, November 16th, from 15:00-17:00 UDIS will be hosting a MY parent session to explain  how assessment and reporting works in the IB Middle Years Programme. This is a process that takes time and ongoing collaboration between the parent community and the school.  During the session on MYP, we will examine how the students are assessed in each subject area and how we use this data to determine grades and produce report cards. This information session will help parents to be better prepared to participate in the student-led conferences at the end of term one and ultimately to more effectively support their child’s learning.

Language & Literature

This week in Language and Literature class the learners have worked on evaluating different scenes  from Romeo and Juliet by Shakespeare. The children also took part in a cumulative review in preparation for next week's summative assessment.

Individuals & Society

For this week the children have been learning about the religion of Christianity and Judaism. The children researched what the Protestant Reformation was. For next week the learners will take part in assessment week and will be writing and argumentative essay for their summative assessment.

Maths

MYP students are solving 2 step algebra problems and multi-step problems solving equations with fractions and unknown values. The class is also reviewing patterns and relationships concepts in order to prepare for upcoming summative examinations next week.

Science

Students are learning how a fair test requires that only one variable be changed in an experiment at a time. This requires that students learn to identify all the possible variables involved in an experiment. Students have been practicing identifying the independent and dependent variables as well as any constants that should be maintained in various experimental scenarios.

Homework

Each MYP classroom teacher will be assigning their homework via Google Classroom. The children should be reading for at least 20 minutes per day. The learners should continue to complete any incomplete classwork for homework and submit it via Google Classroom in order to receive teacher feedback. EAL learners will have their own reading to do from Ms. Liza.
